FIREWALL:
Most people do not know this. If you access the internet via a Broadband Router (wired or wireless) then you already have a very efficient Firewall built into your Router. Without this any data traffic travelling between computers on your network (sharing files etc) could be seen and tracked from the Internet.  This obviously would not be a satisfactory situation, therefore your Router Firewall is designed to automatically ring-fence your whole internal network from the Internet. In addition any computer running Windows XP or Vista also has a basic Firewall built into the operating system, further computer Firewalls are just not necessary. 

If you use a USB Modem to connect a single PC to the Internet the built in Windows Firewall will still provide a basic level of protection. 

If you still wish to install an additional Firewall we would recommend the following software.

Firewall expert Scot Finnie said: " ZoneAlarm Free and Sunbelt Personal Firewall - the two firewalls I've pointed to in the past as having the best user interfaces in this field".

Zone Alarm Firewall:
This very well known free Firewall is available for download by following this link:  http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp  Note: Zone Alarm also offer a range of other security products for purchase, you will probably not need them. Downside - Zone Alarm has reputation for asking a lot of "allow" or "don't allow" questions, often how to answer these questions is not clear to the user. The user naturally wishing to err on the side of caution answers "Don't Allow", however in 95%+ cases the correct answer should be "Allow"  - result of answering incorrectly - you suddenly find some Programs you run or Websites you visit no longer work or display properly.
